macOS High Sierra (version 10.13) is the fourteenth major release of macOS, Apple Inc.'s desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. The successor to macOS Sierra, it focuses on incorporating new technologies and improving existing features, including applications such as Photos and Safari. It was announced at WWDC 2017 on June 5, 2017.

The name "High Sierra" refers to the High Sierra region in California. Like several previous releases, the nomenclature also alludes to its status as a refinement of its predecessor, focused on performance improvements and technical updates rather than user features

macOS High Sierra has the same requirements as its predecessor

• iMac: late 2009 or newer
• MacBook and MacBook Retina: late 2009 or newer
• MacBook Pro: mid-2010 or newer
• MacBook Air: late 2010 or newer
• Mac Mini: mid-2010 or newer
• Mac Pro: mid-2010 or newer
  

HEVC hardware acceleration requires a Mac with a sixth-generation Intel processor or newer:

• iMac: late 2015 27" or newer, mid-2017 21.5" or newer
• MacBook Pro: late 2016 or newer
• MacBook Retina: early 2016 or newer
